Cave Bears

• Here is a picture of what a cave bear may have looked like! They are, of course, extinct now, but they resembled the Grizzly Bear.

• Picture of Cave Bear

• There is a museum in Fort William, Scotland, which has some fossilised remains of the Cave Bears.

• Fossil Skeleton of Cave Bear

• Here you can see the Cave Bear Bones, on display in the Museum. They have placed the exhibit in a forest environment, but, of course, the bones would not be standing on their own, without any flesh and fur!

• Close-up of the Cave Bear Skull

• Here you can see the Fossil Skull of the Cave Bear. You can see that the Bear must have had a very strong bite, because of the large space for the powerful jaw muscles. And don't those teeth look sharp! I wouldn't have liked to find myself lost on the woods or caves with them around!

• The Cave Bears were mainly vegetarian, but would eat whatever they could find, and were in direct competition with the humans until the last ice age, when they unfortunately died out.
